Australia 1887 Sydney Half Sovereign aUNC
A young head variety, combined with the jubilee head for a total of 134,000 coins. The young head is definitely the rarer variant.
This variant is even rarer. It has an Arabic 1 in place of a Roman letter I in REGINA. I’ve found this variant in various Sydney Mint reverses, including 1880, 1881 & 1882. It likely comes from one die in each mintage – number unknown.
Below is a slabbed and graded AU55 for comparison – the EXTREMELY RARE 1883 Sydney half sovereign with the type 3 reverse. That coin can be purchased by clicking on the image (opens in new tab).
