Australia 1915L Florin PCGS AU58
Following the Royal Mint’s production of over 2 million Australian Florins in 1914 (with half a million subordinated to Heaton & Sons of Birmingham), 1915 production hit a major low as the war effort increasingly consumed the London mint’s resources.
Only half a million coins were produced in London, with Heaton & Sons producing another 750,000; therefore this coin is one of the great rarities of early Australian Commonwealth coinage in this grade. It would look uncirculated if taken out of the box. As is, it’s just shy of uncirculated and PCGS records only 12 examples superior.
Rennik’s quotes $6,500 for an aUNC example, but this is a buyer’s market and you will be well on your way to having a solid start in early Commonwealth Florins with this key date coin.
