Australia 1955 Perth Obverse Penny PCGS AU53

The so-called “Mule” penny. It’s not a mule in the sense of a $1 coin being minted with a 10 cent die. The name of mule applies to 1955 and 1956 Perth pennies. In 1955 it is the scarce Perth Obverse that wasn’t prepared in time for minting; Melbourne was used instead. In 1956 those Melbourne obverse dies pressed out a few Perth Pennies. So in 1956 the Melbourne Obverse becomes the scarce variety.
