Australia 1861/0 Sydney Half Sovereign – PCGS XF45

Singe finest example of this incredibly rare overdate variety (06/20). Sydney Mint 1860 is a key date in half sovereigns. 1861/0 is subsequently one of the most exclusive Australian half sovereigns available to collectors. Five coins have been graded by PCGS. This particular coin benefited from PCGS’s restoration service.

Here follows some comparative prices. At the time of the Quartermaster sale, the high grade 1860/50 overdate sold for nearly $51,000. The 1858 RR error half sovereign in low VF (5 examples available in 2009) cleared for nearly $26,500 (+ 5.5% commission). Prices in pre-decimal Australian collectables are still affordable compared to other asset markets.
