Australia 1881 Melbourne Half Sovereign PCGS AU55
- S-3863B
It’s a reflection on scarcity when an equal finest graded half sovereign is only AU55. However, it shouldn’t surprise as Australia was joining the global economic difficulties of the time. The Long Depression (which officially burst Australia’s property bubble in 1893) started in the US in 1873 and was already felt in Australia in the 1880’s. It’s much harder to collect a mint state coin for posterity when times are tough.
